FIRE Take Action Checklist

I am a huge fan of checklists; make a checklist and it will get done! I have put together some of the best quick wins you can get while starting your FIRE journey. Each of these items will only take a few minutes but will propel you further along your path to financial freedom.

  • Start using an app to track your finances and net worth such as Personal Capital

  • Write down the five things that make you happiest and start making them your priority

  • Pick one thing in your finances that annoys or depresses you and make a plan to pay it off in a given timeline

  • Increase your 401k contribution percentage

  • Come up with a clear vision of why you want to achieve FIRE. Once you are financially independent what will your life look like?

  • Open an IRA account where you can save an additional $7,000 each year

  • Switch your 401k to low cost index funds like Vanguard with a 0.04% fee or lower

  • Open a travel credit card like Chase Sapphire Preferred to get a 60,000 point sign up bonus which equals $600 worth of free travel!

  • Break up with your Starbucks/insert money wasting addiction here and use the money to fund one of your five priorities that make you happiest

  • Refinance an existing loan to a lower interest rate. Mortgage, car loan, student loan, etc.

  • Write down financial goals for the year. Include ending balances on all loans and debt. Set a goal for retirement savings!
