Welcome to the

Fuller Institute for Relationship Education

FIRE was established in 2009 at Fuller Theological Seminary, in Pasadena, California.  It is one expression of the ministry vision of the Department of Marriage and Family of the Graduate School of Psychology at Fuller.

Our Vision and Mission

Vision    To strengthen the life and witness of local Christian congregations through marriage, family, and relationship education ministries

Mission   To help congregations create and sustain such ministries through:
  • Creating and disseminating high quality relationship curricula
  • Establishing an expanding network of Christian relationship educators
  • Training volunteers from local congregations to staff their own relationship ministries
  • Making training accessible and affordable to congregations
  • Networking churches with clinicians for referral purposes
Many congregations already know the vital importance of strong and caring families to the life of the church and the surrounding community.  The mission of FIRE is to help make the resources of Fuller's Marriage and Family department and its alumni more directly accessible and relevant to the vitality of local congregations.   These resources include:
  • Training events (click the News & Events tab);
  • One-page downloadable reviews of relationship-oriented books written for the general reader;
  • Kindling, a series of one-page downloadable papers on a variety of family and relationship topics;
  • A speakers' bureau, designed to help congregations locate potential guest speakers and trainers.

Over time, FIRE will offer an expanding catalog of resources through its network of educators.  These curricula will include some of the best-known and well-established ones in the field, as well as others developed by members of the network.  Our goal is to offer quality curricula, including those which are explicitly biblical and theological in content, in a way that congregations can afford.  In this way, we hope to resource congregations to minister in ways that best fit their own particular mission in their local communities.
